lost in space robotWhen I think of this word, I think of the discombobulated robot in Lost in Space, saying over and over again, “That does not compute.” I’ve used discombobulated myself, but never really thought about it. I think most people know that it means to confuse or upset. According to Wiktionary, it’s likely that it’s a version of discompose or discomfit. But really, it’s just fun to say. “I didn’t sleep well last night, and now I’m feeling discombobulated.” In researching this, I found several websites that frankly, left me feeling, well, discombobulated. Take a look at this one, Discombobulated Bubu. It’s about the right to obtain freedom of choice of life in Fiji. Not sure what that has to do with discombobulated. And don’t miss this one, http://sniffyjenkins.tumblr.com/, which includes a post that starts with, “My friend’s 9-year old son found a dead baby porpoise on the beach today.” And the most recent post, from yesterday says, “No one (yet) has called me Justine Bieber today.” Hmm. I’d like to thank my coworker, Lauren B. for suggesting this bon mot. It’s a fun one!

  1. I just shouted “DISCOMBOBULATED” at my husband. He refuses to acknowledge that it is a real word. I’ll have to work on him.
